Privacy Policy

Last updated: 12 August 2026

This policy explains what personal data Get hitched (“we”, “us”) collects, how we use it, and the rights you have over it. It is written to meet the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018, and US state privacy laws including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA). The short version: your data belongs to you, we collect as little as we can, and we never sell it.

1. Who we are

Get hitched is provided by Granular Development LTD (“we”, “us”), the company behind the service. For most of the personal data described here, Granular Development LTD is the “data controller” under EU and UK data protection law. The exception is the information you add about your guests, where you are the controller and we act only as your “processor” (see “Your guests’ data”).

For any question or request about your data, email admin@granulardevelopment.com.

2. Where your data lives

Your account, sites, guest lists, planning tools, RSVP answers, and guest book entries are stored on Get hitched’s servers — in our database and file storage — so your wedding is available from any device you sign in on, and your published site and forms work for your guests around the clock.

If you tried Get hitched before accounts existed, anything you made back then lived only in your browser’s local storage. The first time you sign in, we offer a one-time import that moves it to your account and removes the device copy.

3. What we collect

Depending on how you use Get hitched, we collect:

  • Account details — your email address, sign-in activity, and language preference.
  • Site content — the names, wedding date, venue, photos, and text you put on your website.
  • Guest information — names, contact details, party sizes, RSVP answers, dietary requirements, and answers to any questions you create.
  • Guest book entries — the messages guests leave, the name they sign with, and any photo they attach.
  • Payment records — which plan you bought and Stripe’s reference for the payment. Card numbers go directly to Stripe and never touch our servers.
  • Technical data — IP address, browser type, and pages visited, kept in short-lived logs for security and debugging, plus privacy-conscious usage analytics on our own app pages only — never on your published site or guest-facing pages, and never including names or email addresses.

We do not collect precise location or biometric data, we do not buy data from brokers, and we do not run third-party advertising.

4. Why we use it, and the legal bases

EU and UK law require a legal basis for every use of personal data. Ours are:

  • Providing the service — creating, storing, and displaying your site and planning tools (performance of a contract, Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
  • Keeping the service safe — security logs, abuse prevention, and debugging (legitimate interests, Art. 6(1)(f)).
  • Sending service messages — emails you ask us to send, receipts, and important account notices (contract).
  • Marketing — only with your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time with one click.
  • Legal obligations — keeping payment records for tax and accounting law (Art. 6(1)(c)).

We do not use your data for automated decision-making that has legal or similarly significant effects, and we never sell it.

5. Your guests’ data

When you add guest details or guests RSVP, you decide what is collected and why — under EU and UK law you are the controller of that data, and we process it only on your instructions. Please add only what you need, use it only for your wedding, and let guests know their details are stored with Get hitched. Guests can ask you — or us directly — to correct or delete their information at any time, including guest book notes.

6. Cookies

We use strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in, and your browser’s storage to remember choices like your language. Our own app pages can also set two kinds of optional cookies, and we ask before setting either: analytics cookies (Google Analytics) that help us understand how the builder is used, and advertising cookies (Google Ads) that tell us when one of our own adverts brought you here. No adverts are shown on Get hitched. You can change your choice at any time from “Cookie preferences” in the footer. Your published site and every guest-facing page are different: they load no analytics or advertising tags and set no such cookies at all — your guests are not tracked.

7. Who we share data with

We never sell or rent personal data, and we do not “share” it for cross-context behavioural advertising as US state laws define that term. Data is disclosed only to:

  • Service providers — hosting, database and file storage, email delivery, payment processing (Stripe), and analytics and advertising measurement (Google) — each acting under a data processing agreement and only on our instructions.
  • Visitors to your site — whatever you choose to publish is visible to anyone with your link (or password, if you protect your site).
  • Authorities — only where the law genuinely requires it; where allowed, we will tell you first.

8. International transfers

If personal data of EU, EEA, or UK residents is ever transferred to a country without an adequacy decision, we protect it with the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, supplemented by the UK International Data Transfer Addendum for UK data — or we rely on providers certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.

9. How long we keep data

Your published website stays live for one year after your wedding date, and you can extend that by a year at a time, free, in Settings. We email you before the year ends. When it lapses, the site goes offline and a six-month grace period begins — extend and republish, or download your guest book, any time in that window. We email you again before the grace period ends; after it, the site and its data are permanently deleted.

Deleting a site permanently removes its content, guest list, planning data, photos, and guest book entries from our servers. To delete your whole account, email admin@granulardevelopment.com and we will remove it within 30 days. Security logs are kept for up to 90 days; payment records are kept for as long as tax law requires (typically six to seven years).

10. Your rights in the EU, EEA, and UK

You have the right to:

  • Access a copy of your personal data.
  • Correct inaccurate data.
  • Erase your data (the “right to be forgotten”).
  • Restrict or object to processing, including any based on legitimate interests.
  • Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting past processing.

Email admin@granulardevelopment.com and we will respond within one month. You may also complain to a supervisory authority: the Information Commissioner’s Office in the UK (ico.org.uk) or your national data protection authority in the EU/EEA.

11. Your rights in the United States

If you live in California or another US state with a comprehensive privacy law, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used (this policy), to access, correct, and delete it, and to opt out of its “sale” or “sharing” — which we do not do in the first place. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information beyond what is necessary to provide the service, and we will never discriminate against you for exercising any right.

Send requests to admin@granulardevelopment.com; we verify them against the email on your account, and authorised agents may act for you as California law allows.

12. Children

Get hitched is not directed at children, and you must be at least 18 — or the age of majority where you live — to create an account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, as the US Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) defines it. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

13. Security

Connections to Get hitched and to published sites are encrypted with HTTPS/TLS. Your data is stored on our servers with access limited to the few people who need it to run the service; site passwords are stored as secure hashes, and card details never reach us at all — payments are handled by Stripe. No system is perfectly secure: if a breach ever affects your data, we will notify you and the relevant authority within the legally required time — 72 hours under the GDPR and UK GDPR.

14. Changes to this policy

When we change this policy we will post the new version here and update the date at the top. If a change meaningfully affects your rights, we will tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect.

15. Contact

Get hitched — admin@granulardevelopment.com. If we are required to appoint a representative in the EU or UK under Article 27 GDPR, their details will be published here.
